Nutrition is  one of those topics that has a lot of mystery around it.  It’s scientific.  It’s technical.  Research and fads are constantly updating and changing.  And most people think they need to hire a fancy, expensive nutritionist in order to optimize their health and feel better in their bodies. And during pregnancy, it becomes even more overwhelming with all the food do’s and don’ts and make sure you are eating enough of this mineral and that vitamin.

What would you say if I told you to stop stressing because the solution is actually really simple?

Good nutrition is as easy as learning a simple mantra and following it when planning your meals for the week, grocery shopping, packing lunches for your family and preparing all your snacks and meals.

Greens, Grains and Beans

Yup!  It’s really that easy

Eating a nutritionally dense, whole foods diet that provides your body with all the nutrients you need comes out those 3 simple words.  I recite this to myself every time I eat.  Making sure that your plate, meal or snack contains a green, a complex carbohydrate, or more simply a grain, and a bean, or some source of protein, will ensure that you are getting in all the nutrients you need during pregnancy (and life), you’ll stay fuller for longer and you are optimally fueling your body with everything it needs.

  • Kale, farro and chickpeas
  • Collard Greens, brown rice and black beans
  • Spinach, couscous and chicken (protein =”s bean)
  • Broccoli, Sweet potatoes (complex carb =’s grain), pinto beans
